New Faster Pro Studio Manager in Development |
|
PSM 5 is crazy fast!
(Photoconia May 21, 2009) PC users will be pleased to know Printroom has been beta testing a breakthrough Pro Studio Manager version: PSM 5. This version will batch upload images about 100% faster than is currently possible. Instead of synchronizing images about every 4 seconds, PC users will soon be able to upload thumbnails at a rate of one every 2 seconds. The increased speed appears to be related to uploading multiple galleries rather than a single gallery. (A single gallery seems to upload at the current normal speed.)
Our sources tell us early reviews of this software have been glowing. This is a good sign the version will be rolled out for general use before long. If the PC version proves successful, can the Mac version be far behind?

Printroom To Announce Partnership with Canvas On Demand |
|
Paid memberships can look for free $84 canvas print.
(Photoconia May 11, 2009 Update) Printroom will announce a new partnership with Canvas On Demand on Tuesday, May 13. This partnering will dramatically expand Printroom's canvas offering at very competitive prices. Printroom members receive a 25% discount off Canvas On Demand's posted consumer prices. Printroom Pro members will get an additional 5% discount off those reduced prices. Premium members will get 15% off.
Photographers will be able enter the Canvas On Demand site through Printroom's Lab Central (Place Order link) and through a link Printroom will provide in an announcement email (look for it on May 13th) and on a banner in your online store (look for it by May 12). Canvas On Demand will automatically know what Printroom discount you are entitled when you enter their site through Printroom.
To kick off the announcement Printroom and Canvas On Demand have arranged to give every Pro and Premium Printroom member a free $84 credit toward a canvas print order. Essentially, this will give members a free 16x20 1-1/2" Gallery Wrap canvas print from Canvas On Demand. You should see a banner in your online account offering you the free canvas print on Monday, the 11th.
Order status and customer service for orders placed with Printroom's partner will be done through Canvas On Demand (www.canvasondemand.com).
August 29, 2009 Update: The free canvas print offer is still in effect for paid members. The banner is gone, but you can find the link to Canvas On Demand in the "Lab Order" section of your online store. If you haven't taken advantage of your free $84 credit yet, you still have a credit with Canvas On Demand. Expect to pay $14.95 in shipping for a 16x20 canvas as described above.

Contacting Printroom Support - Useful Strategies |
|
Knowing how Printroom organizes itself can help you get the assistance you need.
Call or create a case.
(Photoconia April 28, 2009) Contacting Printroom is usually as easy as dialing the phone or sending them an email. What happens if your call goes to voice mail? And how do you know they've received your email? This brief article gives you a peek inside Printroom Support's organization. If you know how they organize themselves, you can better get your issue resolved faster and efficiently. (Note: paid members can call on any issue, but Classic members can only call on order issues.)
The obvious thing to keep in mind is that Printroom is not AT&T. They do not have unlimited human resources to handle phone calls. If you call during a busy time for photographers, chances are everyone is on the phone helping another photographer or a photographer's customer--maybe even yours. The fact of the matter is that young companies do not hire excess staff to sit around waiting for the phone to ring. Everyone stays busy. So let's look at a strategy to get our issues resolved during a busy season.

Printroom Drops Lab Prices |
|
Lower prices for prints, gift items and new flat shipping rates
First class shipping as low as $2.99 -- 2nd day Federal Express as low as $8.99!
(Photoconia April 9, 2009) Printroom recently announced a total restructure of its lab prices to members. When Premium members order from their online store (not through Printroom Direct or Pro Studio Manager), they automatically get a 15% discount from Printroom's published print and gift item prices. Pro members get 5% off. Classic members will not get a discount off Printroom's listed prices--with the exception of shipping. All membership levels will now get new lower flat shipping rates for US Post and Federal Express expedited shipping.
This new pricing model is not a promotion. It's a permanent drop in prices and are in effect now. Printroom used to offer a 15% discount on small & medium print orders when the order reached $100 or more. This new pricing structure eliminates that promotion in favor of across-the-board reductions in print, gift item, and shipping costs.

State Sales Tax and Printroom |
|
Got a resale certificate? Let Printroom know.
(Photoconia April 9, 2009) In 2009, many Printroom members noticed something different in the lab orders they placed and in the orders their customers placed: sales tax charges.
In years past, Printroom only charged sales tax on orders with California destinations. With 2009, States have become very aggressive in having online services charge sales tax on Internet orders. Not all states have opted to charge sales tax, but most have. It's not only likely your customers will now be charged sales tax on their orders, but so will you--unless you let Printroom know you are exempt!
Printroom collects the sales tax and handles all the paperwork and payments to the taxing authorities.
Printroom has recently drastically reduced lab order shipping and print prices to encourage more photographers to use them as their lab of choice. If you have a reseller certificate, you'll need to send Printroom a copy to avoid being charged sales tax on your lab orders. The good news is that you can also email support@printroom.com a .pdf file of the certificate and speed the process along.
Canadian members and their customers are currently not affected. Printroom does not collect Goods and Services Tax (GST) nor VAT for European Union members.
